The Client

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, founded by Dame Ellen MacArthur in 2003, is a national charity that takes young people sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer.

THE CHALLENGE

Into the Blue began working with The Trust in 2006 to provide proactive PR and marketing communications, to help support their growth.

The RESULT

At the end of 2010 the Trust became known as the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, with a new identity, logo and message. Celebrating their 10 year anniversary, the Trust has grown beyond every expectation into a national charity. Working with every young person’s primary cancer care unit in the UK, taking young people aged between 8-24 who are in recovery from cancer sailing. 2013 saw the Trust extend their operations from their current base on the Isle of Wight, to include a hub in Scotland which will make the Trust’s services even more accessible. Working alongside the Trust we have activated their role as the official charity for Cowes Week 2007 -08 and as the official charity of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race for the past three years incorporating them into the #raceforall initiative. Following another successful year of trips, the Trust have announced a new plan to double to the number of young people in recovery from Cancer who sail with the Trust over the next three years. “These independent studies into the psychological effects of cancer in children and the values of sail training for young people highlight the long term positive impact the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust trips can have on the challenges that children with cancer and leukaemia face.”

Into the Blue are supporting the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust by running the communications and PR for the project over a national scale from the initial public launch, which included a social media teaser campaign and strong regional and national coverage, through to the finish back in Largs at the end of September.
